As yogis, in particular, it is important to know how to properly engage and lengthen our hamstring muscles. In this class, we will explore not only hamstring stretching, which is common in most yoga classes, but also proper form for hamstring strengthening. We want our muscles to be both supple and strong. When the hamstrings are overly lengthened they can start to pull at the attachments, either at the sit bones or behind the knee. By keeping the pelvis in neutral and drawing energy from the floor up through the legs, this helps us to keep from going too far down the hamstring stretch road without the strength to support it. This is critical information to help keep ourselves safe in our movement patterns both on and off the mat.
